Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein with an engaging KEVA Planks twist!
Explore the innovative spirit and ethical questions of Dr. Frankenstein through an accessible, hands-on, and classroom-friendly lens!
KEVA Planks help young scientists dive into big questions of research, innovation, and ethics. This a simple opportunity to encourage creative building and thoughtful discussion.
Classroom Activity: Build a monster with KEVA Planks
1. Invite your students to build their own monster with KEVA Planks and encourage them to be creative with design and features.
2. Have your students present their creatures to the class. Ask what characteristics they chose to give their monsters and why.
3. Ask your students to imagine that their creations came to life, just like Dr. Frankenstein’s monster. What would happen next? What would that mean for science? For people? What about the monsters themselves? Take some time to discuss the complexity of scientific research. For older students, you can tie in the history of ethics of scientific research, such as the story of Henrietta Lacks.
Modify the prompt to fit your classroom style and time frame!
