Walk through your state!

What better way to explore your state, county, or city than to build it? This room-sized lesson plan allows your students to visualize location and learn about the various aspects of where they live - whether its mountains, rivers, battlefields, or interstates!

Clear a large space in your classroom or library! The more room you have, the better.

Together, construct the outline of your state. Then divide up responsibilities based on what each student wants to contribute. As a class, work to fill your state with its unique geographic characteristics!

Things to consider:

-What are the major rivers?

-Are there any lakes?

-Mountain ranges?

-Does your state have regions?

-Roads, bridges, dams, cities?

-Are there historical locations (battlefields, etc)?

-Build another state and discuss the similarities and differences

-Provide a list of geography terms for students to build
